We don’t need quite as much sleep by the time that we reach adulthood, of course, but sleep still matters quite a great deal, possibly more than many of us realize (or are willing to admit). In today’s fast paced world, it can be difficult to sleep when you should be, but it is highly advisable for the average adult to sleep at least seven hours a night. Though most adults won’t be able to sleep this long, some adults can even be sleeping eight to nine hours per each and every night – or at least most of them or as many of them as is possible.

On top of this, part of practicing good sleep hygiene in your day to day life often involves avoiding your bed at all costs unless it is directly for the purpose of sleeping. You should not work in your bed no matter what, and avoiding spending time in your bed throughout the day is often also ideal and recommended. Using your bed to spend your free time in can be a bad idea because it begins to train your brain to stay awake while in bed, the opposite of what you want to be doing when it comes time to go to sleep.
