Why You Should Donate Your Used Clothing

Having an abundance of clothing is quite common here in the United States. After all, the typical woman of the modern world now has, on average, up to 30 different outfits. This means that she has a new outfit for every single day of the week. Back in the year of 1930, now nearly a century in the past, the average woman would have had only just nine outfits – in total. In addition to this, the average person of today now owns up to double the articles of clothing that someone living just 20 years in the past would have had. And most of us simply do not use all of the clothing that we own.

Getting rid of it is a good idea. After all, with up to 300,000 objects found in the typical home, most of us are certainly no strangers to clutter. This clutter can make day to day living all the harder – and should therefore be avoided as much as it is possible. Sorting through your clothing and giving away what no longer fits, is in style, or has been worn within the last half of a year or so (if you live in a one to two season climate, that is) can all help cut down on what your closet is filled with, leaving you with a much more manageable set of clothing and likely still plenty of things to wear for all occasions.

But what should you do with this clothing once you have culled it from your closet? For far too many people, the answer is simply to throw it away. Unfortunately, this is something that is more than backed up by the data that has been gathered on the subject. Unfortunately, only just over 15% of all clothing discarded in the United States is donated instead of just thrown away, something that is only compounding the growing waste problem faced all throughout the world and not just here in the United States. When you add in textile waste to clothing waste, it has been found that more than 80 pounds of textile waste will be contributed to the landfills each and every year by each and every person living here in the United States. This means that up to ten and a half million tons of textile waste will end up in landfills in this same span of time – and that’s just here in the United States, let alone elsewhere throughout the world as a whole.

Ultimately, however, we are taking steps in the right direction, as making a clothing donation is becoming easier than ever. After all, the charity clothing pickup site has grown in scope and scale over the course of recent years. Taking the time to donate clothes to a charity clothing pickup is something that just about everyone can do, especially when you consider the fact that there is likely a charity clothing pick up site right within your own community. For some people, even just walking to the nearest charity clothing pickup site is possible.

Dropping off your used clothing at a charity clothing pickup site is also something that will give back to your community. After all, you can give to your local charity clothing pickup site and help out children in need clothing as well as members of your community such as veterans and the homeless. Families in need can also be helped by the donations that are made to charity clothing pickup sites. Therefore, giving to a charity clothing pickup site is something that is just all around beneficial at the end of the day.

For many people, giving to a charity clothing pickup site is just as easy as throwing the clothing in question away. There are also so many more benefits to finding a place for charitable donations as well. After all, we all need to be taking care of our environment as much as we are able to do so, and creating more trash is only harming the planet. Fortunately, taking small steps like donating our old and used clothing instead of throwing it away can have a larger impact than we might realize at the end.
